Beyond Conventional Training

MARTEL is dedicated to advancing physical and mental performance through innovative research and evidence-informed training approaches. Our work focuses on developing and evaluating methods that may enhance human performance beyond what is achievable through conventional training alone, particularly in physically demanding and high-performance environments.

Current priorities include Neuropotency Training, military human-performance research, spinal health and load carriage, and the translation of traditional martial arts principles into scientifically informed training methods. MARTEL also maintains broader interests in first-responder performance, spinal rehabilitation, and personal safety training. Our programs and concepts are developed through ongoing research, collaboration with subject-matter experts, and peer-reviewed scientific investigation.

What is Neuropotency Training?

Neuropotency Training is a research-informed training approach developed by MARTEL from principles found within traditional martial arts. It is built around embodied regulation: the ability to use coordinated breathing, internal pressure control, posture, movement and attention to regulate physical and cognitive state during demanding tasks.

Using specialised instruction and multimodal feedback, Neuropotency Training teaches participants to integrate respiratory-motor control with trunk muscle recruitment, whole-body force production and postural stability. It also incorporates principles aimed at supporting cognitive control, attention and decision-making under physical and psychological demand.

MARTEL’s current research program is investigating the effects of this integrated approach on physical performance, spinal support, physiological regulation, cognition and decision-making in high-performance military and special operations contexts.
